Submissions will be accepted starting September 1st
Submissions will close October 21st

The Fifth Rule by Jay Asher

After all that Reef and Leeza have been through, is destiny bound to bring them together? Leeza’s mom issued a restraining order to keep Reef away from her daughter after that terrible accident. Since then, Reef can’t stop thinking about Leeza. Reef wonders if he’ll ever see her again. He desperately attempts to stalk Leeza just to see how she’s doing. Leeza on the other hand, wonders if she should have forgiven Reef. After all, it was because of him that she was able to get her fixators off sooner than planned. Unfortunately, time is running out, someone wants to tear down the North Hills Group home, Reef’s only real home. Can he do what he can to stop this nonsense? Will he revert back to his old self during the process? Leeza receives a call from her birth father, Scott, saying that he wants to make up for the time they had lost. Is that all he wants? Through many events, destiny brings Reef and Leeza together once again, but this time, will they be able to stay together?

New historical fiction display to celebrate the launch of the Kathleen A Hicks Historical Writing Award. Details on the contest can be found here:http://www.mississauga.ca/portal/residents/librarycontests

The contest is open to all those 13-19 years of age. Entries should be 1000 words and focus on a historical event, person, or place in Mississauga. The contest starts May 1st and continues until the end of August.

The next meeting for the Teen Book Club is Monday, April 30th, from 7:00pm - 8:30pm. The TBC will be talking about The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. It’s a great book! Joining the TBC is easy- just show up on Monday night and start talking. As usual, snacks are provided.

The next meeting date for Teen Book Club is Monday, March 26th. That’s this coming Monday! The Teen Book Club meets at 7:00pm in the Ground Floor Program Room at Central Library. Admission is free and no registration is required. Snacks are always provided.

What do we do? We mostly talk about books. And life. Avid reader? Drop in, we’d be happy to see you.

Oh right, and we’ll be talking about Wake by Lisa McMann.

Tell Me a Story: An Art-Inspiered Creative Writing Workshop for Teens

The concept behind Tell Me A Story comes from Chris Van Allsburg’s Mysteries of Harris Burdick and The Chronicles of Harris Burdick. Van Allsburg and other authors have written stories for Burdick’s illustrations, and Van Allsburg further challenges his young readers to create stories of their own. The Harris Burdick books are therefore not only collections of highly imaginative tales, but also calls to readers to use the Harris Burdick images as springboards for their own stories. Imagine the hundreds of thousands of unique stories that can be created from the same fourteen images!

Now imagine the hundreds of unique stories hidden within the AGM’s permanent art collection. 25 years of art… How many stories can we imagine?

Mississauga Central Library will host DIY Programs for Teens throughout March Break. If you are interested in attending any of the programs drop by the Readers Den Information Desk on the Ground Floor of Central Library to pick up tickets.
